Hi all, my name is Dave, I'm 32 years old from Dublin in Ireland and have recently become the proud owner of a beautiful green 1971 Fastback Rapier.
It's also the first car I have ever owned, having just passed my driving test a few weeks ago
I've always loved classic cars and have been a biker for years so when it came time to grow up (a bit) and buy a car I just couldn't face buying some mechaically remote and uninvolving modern car that looks as though it was styled like an aerodynamic refridgerator!
Before buying the car I carried out as much research as possible and narrowed down to a choice of 3 cars that I would like to own (and could afford). Of course the Rapier won out in the end, especially when I seen her in the flesh!
The other cars that I considered were an mid seventies land rover with a long wheelbase (ideal 'go anywhere' camper van conversion), and also I still quite fancy a mid seventies Reliant Scimitar (must have a thing for cars named after swords)....
So far the only changes I have made were an upgraded stereo from an 8 track (with only Nanamous Gouri and James Bond soundtracks) to a modern kenwood stereo. The sound is fantastic and nothing beats cruising around Dublin with some kick ass rockabilly music blasting out
My next minor projects will involve fitting inertia reel seat belts front and back and hopefully coaxing dad into helping me to upholster the seats in nice fresh leather!
Oh and a new steering wheel soon, as the one currently in it looks like something used to steer a bus, so preferably a nice sporty period 70s wheel.
So folks I'll be joining the club soon and I'll try to send in some pics as well.
And does anyone knows if the 71 Rapier has mounting points for rear seat belts, or reciever tubes in the front seats or head rests???
If so drop me a line at david.jo.murphy@gmail.com

Thanks folks and keep it between the hedges!
Dave
