Wanted rear brake shoe link springs ie the springs that attach the rear brake shoes to the brake wheel cylinder pistons. My car has fixed rear brake cylinders and while I was reconditioning them I noticed that these were missing probably not replaced from a previous owner . Failing being able to get these can I obtain some internal brake cylinder springs like the latter model and use these in my earlier units ? All advice appreciated . |

Hello, thanks for further info & sorry for tardy response. Not been on for a while. Club has sold all of the little piston connected springs. I was not aware the pull of springs were different on of the (original) post '69 cars. I thought they were the same regardless of which of the 3 types of wheels cylinder were fitted. In other words the it was the show that dictated what type of pull off springs were used. They were different on the early - non-self adjusting shoes - but by now these have mostly been replaced by the later type anyway. So, not based on any actual experience, I would have said that any of the later cylinders could be fitted. but we are talking brakes here, so I cannot say hand-on-heart that is correct. I've only dealt with fitting cylinders with the small springs in the pistons in the past. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will be able to advise with more authorityon what's inter-changable. Cheers. G. |

Hi and thank you for your response . I can confirm that my car is fitted with cylinders that have the hole in the end of the piston and a small spring attaches from this point to the brake shoes . It is also fitted with the earlier pull off springs . My question is are these small springs still available or can I find and fit the later internal springs to my early type cylinders. The later cylinders are available if I was to replace mine but then I would have difficulty in finding the correct later model pull off springs or doesn't this matter ? The ends of the later pull off springs differ in shape to mine . |

Hello & welcome to the forum. If I understand correctly you are looking for the very small springs as used on 4241-395 cylinders that had holes in the end of the piston, however, your car being a later one would not usually be fitted with these, but normally 4241-319 or 4241-190/191 cylinders which did not have the holes for the springs; as I believe they had an internal spring; therefore you don't require these.
