Hi Jim,

Just send me an e mail via my profile when you're heading my way and we can sort out the details.

The end of this month we'll arrive in Calais. we will first visit somebody in Hanover, for a couple of days, then hopefully head your way. I better email you and establish the expected times?
I'm quite looking forward to seeing a proper Rapier!

Thanks John, I might be interested. In fact I'm coming to France in a few weeks, touring in my campervan. Which area are you?

Hi Jim,
When I changed the polarity and fitted an alternator to my SIV I had the rev counter modified by John Ostick, tel 01535 672125 www.jdo1.com
cost about £90,very good service,he repairs/modifies all types of instruments.I think Speedy Cables of South Wales do the same but don't have any details. Are you thinking of changing to an alterantor? if so there are a number of other things to consider,if you are I can pass on some information.

Regards
John

Usually it is something one has to go for to a specialist, at least it is what I did in the past and the same regards the clock. However it is possible to do it yourself. There is much information on the internet about this subject. I myself am using rather much the fora of both SAOC in the UK and SAOCA in the USA, because much of the technical parts of the Sunbeam Alpine are exactly the same as for the Sunbeam Rapier.

Regards,

Peter

Thanks Peter
Is the conversion of rev counter etc, very complicated?

Both the rev counter and the clock need to be converted to negative earth. The voltage stabiliser don't need any conversion or adjustment.
The wires of the amp meter need to be switched. If you have a radio it need to be converted or in the case of a period radio it is possible that there is a switch at the backside of the radio that need to be switched to negative earth.
Well you understand the dynamo part and that is all there is to it! Oh and of course don't forget to swap the cables on the battery.

Regards,

Peter

Could anybody tell me the pitfalls associated with reversing the polarity on my series 4 Rapier? I want to convert it to negative earth, I understand the dynamo bit, but what would happen to the rev counter, clock and voltage stabiliser for the instruments? Is any problem easily fixed?
