She starts, she runs!
Fresh petrol and clean plugs & points and she fired instantly.
Good oil pressure...... no smoke....no rattles
Will be trying the gearbox tomorrow.
Rich

Hello Richard, welcome to the forum (and the club?) and congratulations on your purchase it looks a really good buy, and has obviously gone to a very good home, take no notice of us whingers, as Jim said it's a matter of personal preference - I bought one with the borg warner 35 auto box and hated it- but that was because I missed the overdrive and it was a pig in the snow, still it was white with rostyle's and a blue interior and looked really smart and as I said it would rocket off on the kickdown. You say you have always admired Rapier's so I hope it gives you as much pleasure as we all get from ours Best Regards

Nice one Richard. I dont think there's a problem with it been an auto, just people preferance for a manual with overdrive.

Jim Gough

Hi,
My dad bought that car. It was delivered yesterday morning.
He's well pleased with it.
What's the problem with it being an auto?
Is there a problem with the auto box or is it just a matter of preference?
The car is very solid. We like the colour and the interior is lovely!
My dad's retired and has several classics the oldest being a 1948 Alvis shooting brake. I'm just finishing off the restoration of my Triumph vitesse MKII convertible.
He plans to get the Rapier running. Sort it out mechanically and use it for a while.
We've always admired the Rapier and are looking forward to tinkering with it and eventually using it.
We'll keep you posted.
Regards,
Richard

Just need gearbox, pedal box & clutch slave, maybe speedo, a few bits of trim.

Yes, I'm thinking of doing same with my auto as I think I've cooked the transmission. 3.70 axle ratio, so higher gearing & I don't think you'd have to change speedo, but o'drive relay & new centre console + change to master cyl push rod. Must be something else, but I think between 1922 & me most of its covered. Once I get in to the rebuild - whenever that will be - I'll post some pics! G

Yes please do! If the right car comes along for me and its an auto, I'll buy with intention of converting it to manual and any piccies will be of help ;)

Regards,
Jim Gough

I had one PUP 897K the same colour but with a black interior in the mid 70's- it was quite chique' then and I loved it, my present Rapier has the same colour interior but with brown dash, very airy as you say but difficult to keep clean. Its a pity about borg warner box really (although the kickdown is quite good) or this would be a great car.

Looks quite a sound motor for 17 years on the road and 22 in a barn. I quite like the interior colour, it makes it nice and airy, but the body colour is gross!
