Thank you for your opinion. I imagined from looking at the forum that it wobe you that replied. Nothing wrong at all with the conversion go 1725, especially as it has apparently been running fine for 22 years, but I couldn't get FIA papers for it on that basis.
The truth is: I don't know the answer,but....do I believe it is likely? I don't think so! Why should Rootes have offered this option when the meaning was replacing the 1592 cc engine by the 1724 cc engine? Rootes wanted obviously to clear out the stock of 1592 cc engines so that in the autumn of 1965 all of their audax cars (for example the Rapier series 5) should be provided with an 1724 cc engine. Another thing to realise is that Rootes did more than just expanding the quantity of cc's. The engine came with an alternator, changed inlet- and exhaust manifolds, changed exhaust, another type of carburettor and different gearbox ratios. Also the polarity of the electrical system changed to negative earth. So: why should Rootes have offered just only a 1724 cc engine as a factory option? It doesn't make sense at all. Anyhow there is nothing wrong with having a 1724 cc engine in your series 4!
I am looking at buying a '65 series IV that was fitted with a 1725 engine in '93. The seller has a letter stating that the 1725 was a factory option in late mark 4s. I haven't been able to corroborate that, does anyone know if that is the case. Thanks.
