Sorry for shoody reply time. Wow that really is a long way for you to go and yes i agree when your car isnt in the show, its not as motivating to make them. Thanks again for the exhaust ideas - Jason has also send me his recommendations so im sure ill be able to get a good system sorted

Zero chance this car will on the road this year and next year is doubtful. Bath is 250 miles each way for me and Blenheim Palace is about my limit at the moment (200 miles each way). Be different when I've got the Rapier on the road - there seems a bit more point - then I can be in the show rather than just a spectator.

Thank you for those Wow that is one clean and sound looking exhaust system. Its so good to have recommendation like that and so it would make sense to go for the same company. Are you making the shows this year?? Starting with the Bath and West show in April.
Cheers

Some pictures of my QuickSilver exhausts:
The Minx exhaust - twenty years old but never yet fitted!. This is the front section and silencer:

And the silencer close up:

These is tail pipe of the H120 system, this is only bit I can get to at the moment. The manifold is a couple of miles away. The system about twenty years old and this car has done thousands of miles in all weathers including several trips from Norwich to Hamburg, Cologne and Malmo. I've only just refitted this and it isn't straight!

And this is a shot of the rear box, I just wiped a rag over it to clean the muck off.

The welds are a little brown on the surface, but this polishes off. The tail pipes still shine and all the pipe work is clean and free of corrosion.
It's a lot of money for an exhaust but you only have to buy one.
p.s. centre pipe and tail pipes on this one are 2 inch. Standard system from '68 onwards is 1 & 3/4 inch with a single tail pipe.

That sounds like a proper job buddy. i would love to see some pics - its pretty exciting adding to the car, but bloody expensive. I dont mind travelling to get this done and to get a custom exhaust that lasts over 20 years - worth ever penny.
At the 1000 pound mark, it might not get done for a few months at best - what with my wedding this year, but its at the top of my list
thanks

Got all of my systems from London Stainless/QuickSilver, that's two H120 systems in large bore pipe with an empty rear silencer and twin outlets and one 1946 Hillman Minx system (also in bigger than standard pipe).
The Minx system was about £400, a full H120 system (from cylinder head to tailpipe) cost me about £900 - this was 20 years ago so it might have gone up a bit! That is a proper multi-branch 4 into 2 into 1 system - not the nasty standard Rapier system with the heavy cast iron ship's anchor at the front.
Both of the H120 systems have done thousands of miles and still look like new - the Minx system has been sitting in the spare room since I bought it
I take some photos of one of the H120 systems and the Minx system if it helps.

thats so good of you thank you. the problem i have is my main exhaust will not seal to the manifold and the rear hanger has now snapped off too, rendering the back box useless.
what id love is a complete system including the manifold, but im sure the price will dictate that. Also im after a 'sporty' and would like a non standard tail pipe set up. Im sure most if not all exhaust companies would be able to knock something but obviously what ever i end up with will be with the beam and me for many many years.
i will take your advise and leave it til after the show though, thanks

Longlife exhausts are normally at the show that you are coming to, there is also a firm near here that makes them, I could pop in there and see what they say??
I presume you need the system from the manifold?
There is another firm that used to advertise on ebay, i'll try find contact details.

I will still be there as I have to help with the organising anyway.
The stand should be filled with Martins fastback plus a series car but if anything changes I'll let you know for sure.
I think you're right about the colour, perhaps we'd have to have a panel each!!
I think I saw that old photo of yours but you should get a copy on here.

That,s a shame jason . will you still go just to have a look round the stalls. And dose that mean there could be a space for another f/b. as i would,nt mind taken mine up, but if it is filled then not a problem.
Yes that sounds good with that shell but who gets to choose the colour that would be interesting.... I have a photo to put on here ... a picture of me sat on the bonnet of my very first f/b which i bought from my brother about 1980,ish. wish i still had it now, it was a 1971 on J. plate. only 9 years old at the time probably the newest car i had bought. |

The bodyshell is not far from me. Is too bad he didn't sell it when I was looking. Would have been a steal. Mind you.... we don't know what his reserve is but it certainly looks as though someone's gonna get a bargain. As for me..... I must not buy any more cars..... I must not buy any more cars..... I must not buy any more cars.... I must not buy any more cars.....
Building the 'Mark II' fastback Rapier ('Arrocuda'). |

Not going to be finished in time for shepton unfortunately but I know it'll be worth the wait. Some good stuff on eBay at the moment, I'm thinking a few of us should group together and buy the bodyshell, holbay engine and build the ultimate fastback!!
