Great news for UK owners of eligible cars. Here in France it's a CT (MOT) every five years if registered as a classic, pre 1980 as I recall.
It would seem that EU regulations are ignored by some member states! The British Gov't finally decided this year after lengthy consultations with the industry, that the status quo would remain... with ANNUAL MoT's here in the UK Good thing or bad? You choose!
Personally I think this is bad news & all vehicles should have an independent inspection if not every year then at least every 2. You or your usual garage might have missed something that a tester picks up. Also, why 1960 as a cut off. We'll have the ridiculous situation of some Rapier's being exempt and some not - a lot of other manufactures too of course. It will be like with Fastback's - some tax exempt, some not. If they really wanted to help the classic motorist then they should have lifted the freeze on rolling VED exemption; even if it went from 25 years to 30 to fall in line with most of the other EU countries. Stepping down from soap-box now. G
A PS: just read Grumpy's post again and as I had thought it had been decided here in UK that MOT's would remain, but thought this post had alerted us to a change of heart! Still was able to vent my spleen on the VED issue
