After Rootes, Chrysler in fact, stopped production of the Hunter range te Hillman Hunter with its 1725 cc engine was produced in Iran under the name Peykan. This production went on quite some years( if I remember correctly up to in the ninetees. But in your case I should bet on an engine offered by Greenwood and produced in France. Greenwood offered for some year a short block for a 1725 cc engine. And for the record: there is nothing wrong with eiter the block produced in France or in Iran.

This is certainly no Rootes engine number! The only explanation I am able to come up with is that there is installed either an engine block produced in France and offered for several years by Greenwood in the UK or an engine(block) of an Iranian Peykan.

That’s great, thanks Peter, I’m a bit paranoid about this engine as it has numbers no one knows. Cheers Tone. |

The pistons are dished as they should be. Flat ones were used in Holbay versions of the 1725 cc engine. The sump is steel as it should be. Alu sumps were standard on the first of the Fastback Rapiers, later on they went back to steel.

Hi all, The pistons on my series V have dished piston tops, is that right? Ones I’ve seen on eBay are flat topped! Also is it supposed to have an alloy sump? Mine is steel. Cheers Tone. |
