I bought all new glass and door seals for the Hunter which were fitted last week but the garage were not happy with the fit of the windscreen seal in the corners. I've had a couple of people tell me "that's the way they are" but I'm not convinced. Opinions?
Well, seal on Rapier is different to Hunter/Sceptre, but looking at your pics, I would say it doesn't look quite right as not uniform width around edge, it should fit or be slightly proud of recess all the way around IMHO. Fitting the insert usually flattens things out, but can't compensate for variances in width of rubber of course. Others may think different....next please
That phenomena (narrowing around the corners), is usually caused by making a seal using rubber that has not been formed for a specific windscreen. If you take a 'straight' strip of rubber and put it around the windscreen you will find that the outside edge of the rubber needs to have a far greater radius then that of the inside edge on the corners. Using a straight strip of rubber has the effect of compressing the inside edge whilst stretching the outer edge causing it to narrow and 'toe in' as it goes around the outer edge.
For a good fit you really need a rubber that was designed specifically for the Hunter which will be shaped around the corners to fit correctly.
