Hi all,
I think the relay on my SIV must be faulty as whilst there is power in from the gearbox isolator switch there is no power reaching the column stalk.I've done all the usual checks (earths, continuity etc etc) and find there is no output from any of the relay terminals.I can only assume that the relay itself is at fault.I believe it's a Lucas SRB 146 6RA type with terminals C1,C2,C4,W1 and W2.Can anyone advise me how to test it (relevant terminals etc).
Thanks
John

Hi John,

I took a look in WSM 124 on page 18 of section E (Gearbox & Overdrive)
If you watch figure 13 A which applies to Rapiers Series 4 then I see the following: Power goes from the gearbox switch to terminal C2 from the relais and from terminal C2 power also goes to the column stalk that is needed because when you switch on the stalk power goes to termnal W1 which activates the relais in that manner that power can go from C1 to the overdrive solenoid.
So when you get no power at the stalk then I should investiate the connection between C2 and the stalk which is a yellow wire. The relay has nothing to do with getting power from the gearbox to the stalk i.e only the terminal C2 is used as a point of connection.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply.I've re-checked all the connection and even re-soldered the connections to the column switch,I now have a supply on the yellow.I then checked for supply/contunity in the switch and find that when the switch is operated there is connection between the yellow/green and yellow/blue but neither of them has any continuity with the yellow at any point.I have concluded that the fault lies with the switch, would you agree?
Kind regards
John

Hi John,

I certainly agree with your diagnoses!Because of the faulty switch you don't get any power on the relay and that is why you in your first check did not get any output from the relay. So now you need to investigate wether you can repair the switch or have to buy another one. New ones aren't available and second hand ones are quite expensive as I have experienced.
I am interested to know what your progress will be on this one.
Best regards,
Peter

Thanks Peter,
I'll begin the search for a replacement.
I've added a posting to the information forum regarding repairs etc etc.
Many thanks
John
