Any advice on an over cooling of series 3a. Engine temp ony up to 170 f , heater cold checked rad cap (new 7lb) and thermostat opens around 175f.

Hi, it was a long time ago since I had a Series, but mine ran at about that, but heater was reasonable. Cap should be 4lb, but that would probably lower temp a bit. Is there an air lock, or is heater matrix blocked? To me your running temp is sort of OK and you should get some heat from the heater, even at that temp. Sure there will be other thoughts from other members. Cheers. G |

Thanks for the response, I have checked the flow through the heater matrix, and it appeared to be ok, however I think I will remove the matrix to ensure it is flowing sufficiently. It is possible that there may be an air lock but I have fitted a bleed screw into the flow return pipe from the heater.

Sounds like you've done most, but it is surprising how just a small blockage through the matrix can cause such a problem. Maybe you are sorted now. Cheers. G |
