Hi All,
Im currently negociating to buy a Series V Rapier and wondered what i should look for in the way of pitfalls etc.
The one im looking at is here http://www.chuggaboom.co.uk/product-detail.asp?pid=44 which seems very solid although chrome is pitted in places, sre replacement bumpers, headlight surrounds available reay chromed or ss?
Is this car known to anyone in the club already??
I hope to be getting the car in the next week or two but would appreciate any advice on using the car for a daily comute 5 miles a day, reliability etc etc.
Many thanks,
Dan |

Hi Dan, Thanks for your posting. I'm a Fastback man myself, but have owned Series cars many years ago. Had a look at this one. Not one known to club, but has lost its original no. plate and had it replaced with a non-age related plate by the looks of it as it should be on a 'D': which is a pity. I'd get this checked before out buy: make sure it's all OK, as I've never seen this before. Also: ser V's are not rare in comparisson to Ser 1 & 2: there may have been only 3700 odd built, but many more survive than the others mentioned. As for servicing all mechanicals available, but interior bits rare & panels rare and expensive! As daily drive should be fine & reasonalbe econ with Weber fitted. Many rust traps, but I'm not best person to advise on this. Someone on here will help, but do check out that 'age related' plate: most odd! Hope if you do buy you join the club too. Cheers. G. |

Hi G,
Thanks for the reply, everythings looking promising for getting the car will have a better idea in a day or two, the dealer has since changed the hubcaps and embelishers for new ones so should smarten it up a little.
Not actually decided on rechroming bumpers at the mo but will give them a good brillo and autosol to start with see how they restore, i know you can get replacement Stainless bumpers for the alpine etc and wonder if anyone knows about similar for the Rapier?
Im looking forward to it and will certainly be joining once ive actually got the car
Cheers,
Dan

Hi David,
Yes i saw the one on ebay but i prefer the colour combination of the other one, red over gunmetal. Anyone know what the paint codes for these are?
Im making the decision later today on whether to buy and will collect next week if i do 99% sure!
Cheers,
Dan |

There is an issue re the V5 as it appears to have the correct VIN Engine and chassis but when i did a registration check it came up with being a 1958 Rapier, The dealer is now sorting this with DVLA so im going to have to hold on for 10-14 days till the corrected V5 comes back :-(
Still hoping to join and the dealer will reserve it for me. |

Hi Dan, read VOSA IDIOT'S in general chat, I'm still trying to sort it out- hope you have more luck than I have- it must be very dissapointing if you were looking forward to it-can't you drive it anyway whilst its being sorted out? I know I am i'm not missing the few summer months we get, anyway it looks a very good choice- a bit pricey but you get what you pay for- hope you get a lot of pleasure from it (her?) Regards etc

 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Ive just been told the car might be subject to identity fraud!!!! the dealer has told me that DVLA are going to inspect the car and t might not be available for a number of weeks now!
Needless to say im devistated as i was hoping to get it this week, i am either going to have to play the waiting game or look for another but was set on this one. |

It could work out in your favour if at some time in the past someone has ringed it with the documentation from a scrapper. The worst that could happen for you, is that the car is given an age related plate with a new set of documents, and you renegotiate the purchase for less money. A similar thing happened to a pal of mine with an old Simca. Usually, when old cars get 'ringed' it's so that they can sell the original plate on.... rather than realise a better price for the car itself.
Building the '2nd series' fastback Rapier ('Arrocuda'). |
